The Bullet Journal

"The Bullet Journal is an analogue system designed to track the past, organise the present, and plan for the future" - Ryder Carroll, Inventor of Bullet Journal

A Bullet Journal comprises of 4 key concepts:

1. Index

This is the backbone of the Bullet Journal. This is how you organise what you add in your notebook. These entries are given a topic. The topic is then added to the index with the page number(s). Entries in the Bullet Journal are call Collections.

2. Collections

Every page is given a topic. These topics serve to group and organise related ideas. Every topic in the Bullet Journal is by definition a Collection. Collections may span across different pages. There are 3 core collections:

2.1. Future Log

This is where you write events occurring in future months.

2.2. Monthly Log

This is where you organise your month. It consists of 2 facing pages:

2.2.1. Calendar Page

Write down Events and Tasks and/or record a Note of what happened to give you a snapshot of the month.

2.2.2. Task Page

Contains Tasks you want to get done this month and Task from the previous month.

2.3. Daily Log

This is used on a day-to-day basis. Rapid Log Tasks, Events, and Notes as they happen.

2.4. Other Collections

Every blank page that is given a topic is by definition a Collection. Collections can take any form and can be more than lists. Examples of Collections are meeting notes, goals, shopping lists, illustration, mind maps, journaling and more. All collections are composed of Rapid-Logging.

3. Rapid-Logging

This is the short-form notation throughout Collections, otherwise known as Bullets.

3.1. Bullets

Bullets are split into 3 categories:

Task, Event, and Note.

3.2. Signifiers

These give further context to the Bullets. Place them to the left of the Bullets. You do not need to add them to each Bullet, only the ones you want to stand out. Create your own as needed.

4. Migration

This is the cornerstone of the Bullet Journal. "It's the difference between being busy and being productive" (R.C.). Migrate Tasks from Daily Logs to the new Monthly Log at the end of the month. Cross out irrelevant tasks. Schedule, Tasks, and Events you want to get to later on in the Future Log.
