We've been looking into flooring options for our living room for a few months now. It's critical to first conduct study and understand your possibilities.
Because there are so many various types and materials to pick from, choosing the appropriate flooring for your home can be a challenging decision. Regardless of your budget, there is a flooring option out there for you.
Our living room requires new flooring. We've been researching flooring options for the past few months in order to make a final decision!
We're sharing what we've learned through our research with you to make things easier!
1. Choosing Something Practical
When it comes to upgrading or adding new flooring, you'll want to be sure it's both practical and matches the rest of your home's colour scheme.
It's fine if you don't like harmonising colours in your home. Remember, it's all about your personal style and level of comfort at the end of the day.
If you have children or animals, for example, carpeting throughout the house may not be the greatest choice, especially if it is light in colour. Maintain in mind that carpets are difficult to keep clean and are difficult to remove dirt and stains from.
2. Carpets
Carpeting is, without a doubt, one of the most popular choices. This is due to the fact that they are nice to walk on and can help to keep your home warm. There are many different styles and colours of carpets to pick from, so you can find one that matches your home's overall colour scheme perfectly.
I, too, enjoy using area rugs to decorate. You can do so much with them, and you can always find a fantastic deal, particularly on Amazon.
Even if you desire carpets, keep in mind that they might be difficult to maintain clean, especially if they are lighter colours. You'll have to discover alternative ways to clean your carpets if you don't have a carpet cleaner on hand.
Although carpeting is one of the most popular flooring options, it has both advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
Carpeting is constantly soft and warm underfoot, making it a pleasure to walk on. It's also incredibly adaptable. Depending on the type, you have the option of wearing a casual or formal look. It comes in a wide range of textures and styles. And it's made to blend in with your way of life.
Cons:
The first and most obvious disadvantage is that stains are not always easy to remove, especially if you have small children. Over time, carpeting expands, causing ripples and bumps. If the seams are not properly installed, they will show. Choosing patterned flooring might be difficult as well. Pattern wear is common, and it can be rather unattractive.
3. Tiles
Tiles are something we all enjoy! Tiles are simple to clean and less likely to be damaged or stained. They're also appropriate for any kitchen, bathroom, or entryway. You can also get a large choice of tiles depending on your budget.
Make sure to select a professional installation to ensure a precise fit. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself or don't know what you're doing.
Tiled flooring is also advantageous since they do not damage the floorboards if water is spilled on them. There are many various types of tiles to pick from, so they may fit into whatever theme or colour scheme you have in mind for your home.
4. Wooden Flooring
There are many various colours and designs to pick from when it comes to wooden flooring. Wood flooring is also a popular choice because it is much easier to clean than carpets.
Wooden flooring is what I want throughout my home, but it's pricey to install, so we're looking at other possibilities. Make sure to get quotes ahead of time so you aren't startled by the price.
5. Laminate & Engineered Wood Floors
When it comes to laminate flooring, you have a lot of alternatives. For example, you can have laminate flooring that looks like wood or tile. Laminate is also very easy to maintain clean and can be used throughout your home.
Laminate flooring is easy to clean and can be found at a lower cost than hardwood flooring. One disadvantage of putting laminate is that if it is damaged, it must be replaced. There's nothing that can be done about it.
Engineered wood flooring is laminate flooring topped with real wood, this gives you the effect of having real wood flooring but the ease of installations that laminate flooring gives you. This also has a lower price tag than wooden flooring, we have gone for this option in our living room, see below our choice (not sponsored).
6. Vinyl Flooring
I believe most of us have had vinyl flooring installed in our houses at some point. It's really popular, and it's also incredibly cost-effective. Vinyl flooring is quite practical and comes in a variety of colours and designs.
However, there is a disadvantage to installing it: it is readily dented. If you have pets, this may not be the best solution. Dogs and cats enjoy digging their nails into vinyl flooring, and while you may repair a section if it becomes damaged, it never looks the same. However, vinyl flooring is available in a peel-and-stick style, making it far easier to install than a complete roll of vinyl flooring.
I do love the patterns and colors vinyl flooring comes in that’s for sure.
I believe I've covered a wide range of flooring options for you to consider, but if you do your homework, you'll find plenty more. After you've cycled through the primary alternatives, the options get a lot more niche-oriented.
Overall, choosing the correct sort of flooring for your home can be tough, but with so many options, I'm confident you'll find something you love!
